The serial cable supports either the RS232 or RS485 serial protocol, and some models support both. You can use serial cables to connect and control GPIB devices, LCD/keypad displays, touchscreens, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), bar code scanners, and external I/O from a PXI or CompactRIO system. When using a serial cable with a CompactRIO or PXI module, you can select a standard DB-9 connector or the right-angle connector to save space with your system design. Serial cables for use with GPIB devices include serial conversion cables and null-modem cables.
